Haliwa-Saponi Tribe Names New Chief And Tribal Administrator

HOLLISTER, NC -- Jesse W. Richardson has been named the new chief of the Haliwa-Saponi Tribe and Dr. Joseph O. Richardson is the new tribal administrator.

The new chief, who was the vice-chief, succeeds Barry Richardson who resigned from the office in November. Jesse Richardon's son, Gregory Richardson, is the executive director of the N.C. Commission of Indian Affairs in Raleigh.

Joseph Richardson is a former Warren County school administrator and former principal of the Old Haliwa Indian School which was developed and administered by the tribe in the 1950s.
