HOLLISTER, NC -- W.R. Richardson, former long-time chief of the Haliwa-Saponi Tribe in North Carolina, died Thursday afternoon, April 26. Mr. Richardson had been admitted recently to a retirement home. He died in an area hospital after being hospitalized for approximately one week. Chief Richardson turned 86 on Monday April 23. According to local sources, the tribe is held a memorial service Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night, April 27-29, at the Haliwa-Saponi Tribal School. The family received friends and family at Blaylock Funeral Home in Littleton, N.C. Saturday, April 28. Funeral services were held Sunday, April 29, at Mount Bethel Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. Burial followed at Chief Richardson's home.
